All the Things…
Adapted from the art of Allie Brosh
I have not been keeping up with the Studio Blog as I had hoped…I am feeling tired…and sad. I am sure that I am not alone in those feelings. I began to think about all the things that creative friends, acquaintances, and mentors are sharing to help lift their audiences during these last few months—a curated list of things to read, things to do, things to think about, things to listen to, etc. It’s not that those things don’t help me momentarily feel better, or briefly more grounded—they do—it’s just that my brain feels like more of a sieve, and racking it to come up with my own curated list seemed harder than I needed it to be today.
Despite all of that, I will share a few things with you that have stuck with me lately, some images, some food, and a lovely talk (link below) that came to me via Lettie Jane Rennekamp’s excellent newsletter.
Vija Celmins, Untitled (Web 3) 2002
I like to think about this Vija Celmins print in conjunction this talk (which has really stuck with me since I read it), given by Nicole Lavelle at Headlands Center for the Arts in February 2025:
Below are a few images I took of things that make me feel…human. From L to R: A section of the studio bookshelf, a banner I made with a couple Jenny Holzer Truisms, a Lynda Benglis sculpture from the new show at the Lumber Room, Irises from my friend’s front yard, a monotype from printmaking workshop participant Claire Melli, a “cool recipe” from new mom Alison Roman, Detail of a stunning work by Storm Tharp, A wreath in Mitchell, OR, A pretty and tasty sunset pavlova I made.
Stay well—
