SEEING ART is a small group visit to look at art in the Portland Metro area together! At Paisley Studios, we know that making art is important. This new series is inspired by our 8th principle, YOU ARE NOT ALONE, and reinforces our belief that looking at art makes us feel like we are part of a larger conversation, puts us in a different state of mind, and inspires us to think/talk about new things.
We will have a special tour this month of the show “Color Outside the Lines” at the JSMA at PSU! Color Outside the Lines from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation examines the ways artists have used color to question institutions, beliefs, and expectations. Some of the artists included here celebrate and amplify colors intrinsic to their cultures, showcasing beauty once dismissed or rendered invisible. Artists like Faith Ringgold and Christopher Myers, for instance, create works inspired by African quilts and stories; these pieces emphasize the vivid contrasts in color often prevalent in African textiles.
If you have taken any of Bonnie’s classes at the studio, you will often hear an earful about color and how it functions in our daily lives as well as in art we make and look at. We will meet at 2:30 at the entrance to the museum.
